WWE RAW Results (8/29): Major Name Returns, New Universal Champion Crowned, Bayley Teams with New Day!



Corey Graves w/ Roman Reigns, Big Cass, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens

As Graves attempts to intro the group, Rollins cuts him off and says the real reason they are all here is because of him. He forced Finn Bálor to relinquish the title. Rollins says he doesn’t need to be here. He is in a benevolent mood so he is going to donate his mic time to someone who needs it, Kevin Owens. Owens puts on his best “gee, golly” voice and puts over everyone in the ring and say he is excited to be in the match tonight. Graves asks Owens for his thoughts on tonight’s match. Owens notes that he thought the point of this was for everyone to be nice to each other. That must be the point since Graves organized this to be like a group therapy session. Owens says he is going to win tonight because Sami Zayn is out of the picture, he can finally focus on the what is important: The WWE Universal Championship.
Owens runs down everyone in the ring. Owens tells Cass he doesn’t belong there because he is just tall, which counts for nothing. Cass tries to speak, but Owens cuts him off and says he is surprised Cass has a voice. He thought Cass had a string on his back and could only speak when that idiot Enzo pilled it. Cass asks Owens if he wrote that or if Jericho wrote it for him. Cass says he knows he is new here and that he has never won a championship. All that said, he has nothing to lose. Cass tells Rollins that no matter what he has been telling himself the past few years, size does matter.  Rollins gets upset and says he is taking his mic time back. Rollins says he is going to eliminate Cass, then Owens, then that will just leave Reigns. There are three things that are certain in life: death, taxes, and Rollins beating Reigns.
Graves asks Reigns if he has anything to say. Reigns gets up and punches Owens in the face. Rollins attacks Cass. Reigns pulls Rollins off of Cass. Rollins knees Reigns into Cass. Reigns tosses Rollins out of the ring. Cass lunges at Reigns, but Reigns tosses him out of the ring as well. Reigns is left staring at the belt in the ring alone.

Chris Jericho vs Neville

Jericho mushes Neville in the face. Neville chops Jericho a few times before flooring him with a flying elbow smash. Jericho whips Neville into the ropes and attempts a dropkick. Neville catches Jericho by his legs and slingshots him over the top rope. Neville sets up a dive to the outside but Jericho exits stage left. Neville follows Jericho to the outside. Jericho is busy jawing at fans. Neville taps Jericho on the shoulder and kicks him in the gut. Neville tosses Jericho back in the ring. Neville gets a two count after a crossbody off the top rope. Jericho hides behind the Referee. As the Referee tries to get Jericho off of him, Jericho pokes Neville in the eye.
After a short break, Jericho drops Neville face first off the top rope. Diving back elbow by Jericho for a near fall. Jericho locks in a rear chin lock. Neville fights out of it, kicks Jericho in the chest, then kicks him in the face. Jericho hops to the top rope and dives off. Neville kicks Jericho in the stomach. Neville gets another near fall after a standing shooting star press. Jericho retreats to the outside. Neville catches him with a sliding sick kick followed by an Asai moonsault to the outside. Neville rolls Jericho back in the ring. Neville goes up top, but Jericho tries to knock him off the top. Neville hits a springboard dropkick for a two count. Jericho misses a bulldog. Neville tosses Jericho chest first into the turnbuckle. Neville waist locks Jericho for a deadlift German suplex, but Jericho rolls through and attempts the Walls of Jericho. Neville turns it into a roll up for a long two count. Jericho goes for the Codebreaker, but Neville catches him in midair. Neville superkicks Jericho. Neville misses the Red Arrow. Neville tries to hurricanrana Jericho, but Neville reverses it into the Lion Tamer for the submission victory.
Winner- Chris Jericho
Backstage, Bayley is walking around backstage. She introduces herself to a production assistant and gives him a hug. Bayley runs into The New Day, but Dana Brooke interrupts the love fest. Brooke calls Bayley unprofessional. Bayley doesn’t belong here. Big E. says Bayley looked pretty good last week… while she was beating Brooke. Brooke says she is going to go find Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Xavier Woods tells her to bring it.

Nia Jax vs Myon

Jax almost decapitates Myon with a Lariat. Jax picks Myon up and tosses her back down to the mat. Elbow drop by Jax. Jax smashes Myon in the corner. Jax grabs Myon by her hair and tosses her across the ring. Samoan drop into a side slam by Jax for the win.
Winner- Nia Jax

Sami Zayn vs Jinder Mahal


Mahal grabs a wrist lock, but Zayn flips out of it and locks in an armbar. Mahal gets to his feet and elbows Zayn in the face. Mahal whips Zayn into the ropes, but Zayn springboards over him. Zayn hits a leg lariat to Mahal. Mahal rolls to the outside of the ring. Mahal tries to pull Zayn out of the ring by his bad ankle. Zayn pulls away. Mahal clotheslines Zayn in the back of the head. Zayn is heavily favoring his ankle. Zayn exploder suplexes Mahal into the corner. Zayn hits the Helluva Kick for the win.
Winner- Sami Zayn
Charlotte is at the announce desk. Footage from Lita’s interview with Sasha Banks is aired. Banks says Charlotte tried to end her career. She is going to show Charlotte that she is the boss and that she is going to come back better than ever.

The New Day and Bayley vs Gallow, Anderson, and Dana Brooke

Bayley and Brooke start the match. Brooke grabs Bayley by the ponytail and slams her to the mat. Bayley double legs Brooke and takes her over with a jackknife cover for a one count. Brooke slams Bayley head first into the turnbuckle. Bayle Hulks up and slams Brooke into the turnbuckle over and over again. Brooke tags in Anderson, who runs into right into a belly-to-belly by Big E. Brooke distract the Referee long enough for Anderson to poke Big E. in the eye. Anderson kicks Big E. in the head. Gallows tags in and misses a jumping elbow drop. Big E. tags in Kingston, who cleans house. Anderson ends up in New Day’s corner. Unicorn stampede by New Day. Bayley joins in the fun; Kingston tosses her into Anderson for a basement dropkick.

After a short break, Kingston springboards into the ring, but Anderson catches him midair and destroys him with a spine buster. Gallows tags in and puts Kingston into the tree of woe. Gallows hits a basement dropkick, followed by a suplex for a two count. Gallows and Anderson take turns working over Kingston. Anderson charges Kingston in the corner, but Kingston hits a standing double foot stomp to Anderson. Kingston tags in Bayley. Bayley hits the Bayley corner combo. Bayle pins Brooke, but Gallows pulls her out of the ring. The guys battle on the outside of the ring. Brooke tries to roll up Bayley from behind, but Bayley kicks out. Bayley hits the Bayley-to-Belly for the win!
Winner- Bayley and The New Day


Best of Seven Series (Match Two): Sheamus vs Cesaro

Cesaro grabs Sheamus by the arm and takes him down to the mat. Cesaro rolls up Sheamus with a la magistral cradle for a one count. Cesaro tries the swing, but Sheamus kicks out of it. Cesaro double foots stomps Sheamus on the chest. Sheamus rolls to the outside. Cesaro knocks Sheamus off the apron. Sheamus hurts his elbow on the ring apron. Sheamus yells for the Referee to look at his elbow. As the Referee is looking at it, Cesaro attacks Sheamus’ Elbow. Cesaro dropkicks Sheamus, then clotheslines him over the top rope.

After the break, Sheamus is working a side headlock on Cesaro. Sheamus whips Cesaro into the ropes and telegraphs a back body drop. Cesaro answers with a European uppercut. Sheamus takes Cesaro down and tries to lock in the cloverleaf. Cesaro fights out of it. Sheamus misses a Brogue kick, which allows Cesaro to land a springboard corkscrew European uppercut.  Cesaro goes for the swing again, but Sheamus hooks the bottom rope to stop the swing. Cesaro turns the swing attempt into a sit out power bomb for a near fall. Cesaro lands a running uppercut in the corner.
Sheamus rolls up Cesaro and puts his feet on the ropes, but the Referee sees it and stops the count. Cesaro puts Sheamus on the uppercut train. Cesaro sits Sheamus on the top rope and dropkicks him off. Cesaro tries to uppercut Sheamus on the outside, but Sheamus back body drops him into the ring post. Sheamus tosses Cesaro back into the ring and locks in the cloverleaf. Cesaro taps out immediately.
Winner- Sheamus

Braun Strowman vs Americo

Strowman smash tiny Luchador! Strowman flapjacks Americo in the air and reverse chokeslam him. Shockingly (not), it’s over.
Winner- Braun Strowman
After the match, Strowman pulls off Americo’s masks and celebrates.

In Ring Segment: Stephanie McMahon

Stephanie welcomes everyone to this historic edition of Monday Night Raw. Stephanie says last week Brock Lesnar crossed the line when he put his hands on her brother at SummerSlam. No one puts their hands on a McMahon. Paul Heyman interrupts and asks Stephanie to indulge him. Stephanie says she will not and he needs to get in this ring and apologize. Heyman says when Lesnar beat Randy Orton at SummerSlam it was a victory for Raw. Heyman says when Lesnar crossed the line he tried to protect Shane McMahon. He is out here tonight to pay the $500 fine Stephanie ordered Lesnar to pay. Heyman pulls out a stack of singles. He counts them out by throwing them in the middle of the ring and counting out loud.
Stephanie says Lesnar adds something to Raw, but what does Heyman add? There is a storm coming and it is coming Heyman’s way. Heyman says his client, Brock Lesnar is the storm. Heyman says they understand the compromising position they put her in. Heyman adds that Stephanie is the sole heir to the McMahon fortune and this company. Heyman begs Stephanie to accept this as a fine paid, a lessoned learned, and an apology levied. Stephanie accepts the apology and walks away. Heyman keeps his back turned as he laughs that Stephanie bought it.

Titus O’Neil vs Darren Young w/Bob Backlund

Young is all over O’Neil. Taking O’Neil down to the mat and pounding on him. Young hits a few chops. O’Neil tosses Young so hard into the turnbuckle he tumbles over the top rope onto a cameraman. O’Neil body slams Young. O’Neil traps Young into the corner. Young tries to fight out, but O’Neil cuts him off. Young rolls up O’Neil in a crucifix pin for the win.
Winner- Darren Young
After the match, O’Neil beats down Backlund and Young.

Universal Championship Fatal 4-Way: Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs Big Cass vs Kevin Owens

As soon as the bell rings, Kevin Owens rolls to the outside and stands next to Stephanie. Big Cass tosses Seth Rollins out of the ring. Cass and Reigns face off. Owens and Rollins attack Reigns and Cass from behind. Rollins rolls to the outside. Cass follows him. Owens and Reigns trade punches on the other side of the ring. Back in the ring, Rollins tries to suplex Cass. Cass reverses it and hits a suplex of his own. Reigns tosses Owens back in the ring. Reigns stomps Owens in the corner, as Rollins pokes Cass in the eye. Cass whips Rollins into the corner but Rollins get his foot up. Rollins hops to the top rope, but Cass hits a stiff right hand that sends Rollins careening to the floor. Cass and Reigns face off again. They trade rights and lefts. Reigns knocks Cass down after a jumping clothesline. Reigns calls for the Superman punch, but Cass catches him in a uranage position. Reigns fights out of it. Cass hits the ropes and hits a Test like big boot that sends both Reigns and Cass to the outside.

Rollins dives through the ropes onto Cass. Owens surprises Rollins with a flapjack onto the barricade. Owens picks up Cass. Before they can get in the ring, Reigns dives over to top rope onto Owens and Cass. After a short break, Owens hits a Cactus Elbow drop off the apron onto Cass. Rollins knees Owens in the face. Owens hits a senton onto Cass. Cass kicks out at two. Owens and Cass trade punches. Owens drapes Cass’ leg on the middle rope and kicks his knee. Owens calls for the cannonball, but Rollins pulls Owens out of the ring and tosses him head first into the barricade. Rollins splashes Cass in the corner. Reigns clotheslines Rollins, then Owens. Reigns turns around and walks right into a big boot by Cass.
Cass splashes Owens and Rollins at the same time. Cass big boots Owens to the outside. Rollins rolls up Cass from behind, but Cass kicks out. Cass picks up Rollins and body slams him. Empire Elbow by Cass. Cass picks up Rollins again, but Reigns Superman punches him. Rollins throws Reigns into the ring post and kicks Cass in the side of the head for another near fall. Owens hits a frog splash out of nowhere onto Cass for the pin.
Big Cass has been eliminated.

After another break, Owens tries to superplex Rollins off the top, but Reigns joins and turns it into a tower of doom power bomb. Reigns tries to pin Owens, but Owens kicks out. Reigns tries to pin Rollins, but Rollins kicks out. Reigns traps Rollins in the corner and clotheslines Rollins over and over again. Big boot by Reigns. Reigns misses the Superman punch. Rollins tosses Reigns to the outside. Rollins goes for a dive, but Reign punches him in the face before he can get through the ropes. Reigns misses another Superman punch. Rollins turns it into a falcon arrow for a long two count.
Rollins calls for the pedigree, but Reigns backdrops him to the apron. Rollins lands on his feet and springboards off the tope rope. Reigns catches him with a mid-air Superman punch for another close two count. Reigns calls for the spear, but Rollins knees him in the head, then kicks him in the head for good measure. Owens attacks Rollins from behind. Owens cannonballs Reign and Rollins. Owens tries to cannonball Reigns again, but he eats a Superman punch for his trouble. Reigns calls for the Spear yet again, but Owens superkicks him. Owens Irish whips Reigns into the ropes for the Popup Powerbomb, but Reigns reverses it into a Superman punch.

Owens rolls out of the ring. Rollins tries to Pedigree Reigns, but Reigns reverses it into a roll up sit out powerbomb. Rollins kicks out! Rollins rolls to the apron. Reigns drive by kicks him, then Superman punches Owens. Reigns Spears Rollins on the outside. Triple H appears out of nowhere and Pedigrees Reigns on the outside! Triple H tosses Reigns in the ring, then tells Rollins to get in the ring. Rollins pins Reigns!
Roman Reigns is eliminated.
Triple H walks to the other side of the ring and tosses Owens in the ring. Triple H is about to attack Owens, but he kicks Rollins in the stomach and grabs him for a Pedigree. Rollins is struggling trying to get out of it, but he can’t. Triple H is staring at Owens. Owens is in shock. Triple H Pedigrees Owens. That’s all she wrote.
Seth Rollins is eliminated.
Winner and NEW WWE Universal Champion, Kevin Owens!
