The Rock could return at WrestleMania 33.
According to Cageside Seats, the former WWE Champion is rumored for a surprise appearance at the event: The Rock is expected to be a surprise at WrestleMania 33, even if just for a backstage segment.
The Rock recently hinted at a potential WrestleMania appearance on Twitter, and recent history suggests that, even if he's not announced, he'll be there anyway.
The Rock had a Twitter exchange with Eric LeGrand, recipient of the 2017 Warrior Award for the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, and noted that he and his team are "trying to get down there" to Orlando for WrestleMania 33.
"The People's Champ" has appeared at every 'Mania since WrestleMania 27, with his roles varying from hosting the show to appearing in in-ring segments to wrestling John Cena and even Erick Rowan. WWE likely won't advertise an appearance from The Rock, instead of keeping him as one of the surprises for the fans in attendance, but that's a questionable philosophy.
WWE hit 1.8 million WWE Network subscribers at WrestleMania 32 last year, so just imagine what that number could have been had The Rock, the world's highest paid actor and one of its most popular as well, been announced for a match beforehand.
Yes, we get that the "shock factor" is one of the best aspects of WrestleMania. But if The Rock is going to show up at WrestleMania 33, foregoing a surprise in favor of more viewers is the right way to go.
