There is no doubt at this point that the WWE rules the wrestling industry. In fact, only WCW have even threatened that notion since the 1990s.
Vince McMahon's monopoly of wrestling has seen some criticise the industry and claim the WWE has become stale because of a lack of competition.
Just in America, there is Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Lucha Underground and Evolve among many others.
And that's without considering Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom, all of whom have a strong wrestling audience.
However, the WWE is at the top of the mountain and is a truly global powerhouse. It's not even close.
According to ProWrestlingSheet.com, the WWE are now in negotiations to acquire Ring of Honor.
Talks with the Sinclair Broadcast Group are said to have begun in January and are progressing nicely. The idea is that the WWE Network will be the home for ROH shows after the acquisition, but there is no telling how the exchange of talent will work at this stage. It's worth noting the Hardy Boyz also signed a short-term deal with the company recently.
